At the Y we believe that every child should start the school year ready to excel. We believe that success starts from day one and we know our community can come together to help all of the children in our city achieve success.
Here’s How it Works
Before school starts, the Y invites eligible children to participate. Children meet at the Stoney Creek Y on their assigned shopping date. They are paired with a volunteer shopping buddy, have dinner and head to their local store. Together, the child and shopping buddy shop for much needed new school clothes. Children are also given a new backpack and grade-appropriate school supplies. Shopping buddies escort the children back to the bus and return to the Y to their waiting parents. Make a Donation
There is no cost to the child’s family to participate. We count on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations and we are determined to send 25 children from the Stoney YMCA shopping this August. But we need your help. All donations are greatly appreciated; sponsoring 10 children ($1,500) or even just one or two children at $150 each, makes a difference.
Become a Backpack Buddy
Each child who shops with YMCA Bright Beginnings receives a backpack and grade appropriate school supplies. Your business, organization, or family can partner with the Stoney Creek YMCA and fill backpacks appropriate for children in grades 1st-8th. Pick up a supply list at any store and purchase those items and return it to the Stoney Creek Y by August 1st or check out our Bright Beginnings Needed Supplies List.
